NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Prepare to be swept away by a talented debut author with a passionate, powerful story to tell.
They meet on a beach. . . . Abby Davis isn’t wearing a skimpy bikini or sipping umbrella drinks, not when she’s busy chasing around four little ones. And Matt McKinney isn’t looking for fun—he’s a Navy SEAL, a grown man with a long list of missions . . . and fallen brothers.
They only have a week. . . . Abby has brought her children to this beach to start over, to give them the enjoyable memories they deserve. Matt’s been sidelined by a combat injury, and haunted by the best friend he lost and the promise he made to remain a SEAL—focused and dedicated. This leaves no time for what he’s always wanted a family.
But a week is all it takes. . . . Matt opens her heart while Abby soothes his soul. And though they plan to say good-bye when the week is over, something magical happens on that beach, something neither can forget. Something utterly, completely worth falling for.

Worth the Fall The McKinney Brothers Book 1 eBook Claudia Connor
I liked the idea of this story--a single man in the military falling for a widowed mother. The execution of the story was rather unbelievable though. The heroine doesn't have one or two kids; she has FOUR children with a baby on the way. First of all, what pregnant mother would take four young kids to the beach by herself? That sounds like the exact opposite of a vacation. And while I'm sure some single men would be more than happy to meet a single woman with kids, being immediately attracted to and interested in pursuing a relationship with a woman with that many children seems unlikely. The idea they even have any time to chat on the beach is absurd--she's there alone with four kids! The eventual relationship between them was somewhat sweet as it unfolded, but the heroine was just too weak for my liking. What could have been a great book was only so-so for me. I don't plan to read anything else from this author.

Worth the Fall The McKinney Brothers Book 1 eBook Claudia Connor Reviews
5 Stars!
This is one of those rare times where 5 stars is not enough. As a blogger/reviewer/beta reader, many amazing (and not so amazing) books come my way. The truth is that sometimes I'm reading so much for authors that I am slow to pick off of my Goodreads TBR. Well, I recently found myself with a small window where I could pick off my TBR. I purposely scrolled down with the intention of selecting a book that I shelved a while back. Additionally, I wanted to find an author that I haven't read yet.
Lucky me! I picked a winner! I could kick my own butt for having this treasure under my nose for so long. And what makes me even happier is that this is a series. Yeah! )
Claudia Connor has quickly moved up my list of favorite reads of 2018. Worth The Fall is easily in my top five favorites. Just wow! This book had everything I love in a perfect read. The way this author weaved this story, I can say with certainty that it is a one of a kind. I've read similar tropes of single parent and military many times before. But never this way. This story was magnificent. I want to recommend this book to all of my friends. And I plan to do just that. No one who loves intense romance with all the feels should miss out on this book. Another aspect I love with this author's storytelling talents is that way she builds to the climax. You just know something is coming. And while this book is angsty, the author gives us enough throughout without spoiling the end. I never guessed. I just happily went along for the ride. And holy, holy, holy.....Matt McKinney is my favorite book boyfriend at the moment. That may change but let me tell you, it will not be easy to knock him of that pedestal.
Now I will try my best here not to spoil anything.
Matt is an active Navy SEAL on leave. He finds himself spending a week at a beach resort. While he started off with his cousin for company, Matt finds himself enjoying the solitude when Rob goes home early. While taking a walk on the beach, Matt meets Abby and her very young four children. Abby is also pregnant with number five. She is there alone. A widow. Abby is guarded and extremely protective of her heart. She will never give anyone the power to break it again. I completely adored this woman.
The relationship build between Abby and Matt is slow and careful. Matt knows he is dealing with a skittish young woman. That said, I never felt frustrated with the pace. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't have believed their story otherwise. The author has an incredible talent for building tension so high. When Abby and Matt's moment finally came, I believed every second of it. I was right there with them. The whole dynamic created by this author with Matt, Abby and her children was beautiful.
Their story was perfect. I cried, I laughed and at one time I was angry and heartbroken. Claudia Connor did a remarkable job of putting my shattered heart back together and calming my fears.
The McKinney family was perfectly imperfect. There are more brothers to get books. As a matter of fact I've already started reading Stephen's book. Only 21% in and I know I'm in for another emotional ride.
I absolutely recommend this as a must read! I promise you will not come away from this book unchanged. This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. )
I really enjoyed this book! I read the other 2 books in this series when they were released and decided that it was finally time to go back and read the first book. I am always looking for something a little different to read and this one definitely met that definition. I honestly cannot remember the last time I read a romance where the heroine is pregnant with 4 kids. This book not only worked, it worked well. I was really hooked by Matt and Abby's story and wanted to listen to it for hours at a time. I am so glad that I decided to pick this one up.
Abby has taken her 4 young children to the beach for a vacation. Her husband recently died so it is just her and the kids. Abby is pregnant with her 5th child so she wants to fit one more trip before it becomes harder with a new baby. Matt is a Navy SEAL who is taking a much needed break at the beach. When Abby's son asks Matt to play ball with him, he can't say no. He finds himself wanting to spend more and more time with Abby and her family.
I loved the characters in this book. I have to say that I don't tend to pick up a lot of books with kids playing a large role. I like kids and even have had a couple myself but I don't always like to read about them. These kids were amazing. They were all really great characters that added something to the story. Matt was such a great guy. I loved how he was with both Abby and the kids. It seemed so natural from the very beginning, like he was meant to be with them. Abby was such a great mom and very independent. I liked watching her learn to trust Matt and let him into her life.
Johanna Parker does a wonderful job with the narration in this book. I have listened to her narration before and knew that I really liked her style. She handled all of the different characters in this book so well. She had realistic voices that she used for each character including the young children. She was able to put a lot of emotion into the reading and her voice was very pleasant to listen to for hours at a time.
The only thing that didn't seem realistic about this story was how well behaved Abby's children were at all times. As a mom, I kind of wanted to see one of these kids have the meltdown you know would happen at some point. Anyone who has taken young children on vacation knows there is going to be tears, screaming, and most bodily fluids will most likely be involved. Of course, the absence of these things may be the reason that I liked these kids as much as I did.
I would recommend this audiobook to others. It was a really fun and romantic story that was really a joy to listen to. I plan to read more of Claudia Connor's work in the future.
